This is a bulkhead air conditioning installation in a Manly apartment using a multi-split system setup that includes the following components:
- 5.3kW Hitachi 2 Port Multi Outdoor Unit (RAM-53NP2E) positioned on the balcony;
- 3.5kW Bulkhead Indoor Head Unit (RAD-35RXE) for the living room; and
- 2.5kW Bulkhead Indoor Head Unit (RAD-25RXE) for the master bedroom.

The client was making renovations on the apartment which made this multi split bulkhead installation easier. It allowed our team to cut access holes in the ceiling without worrying about rework. As well, it allowed us to reach the switchboard in the kitchen without any damage since it was being replaced.
For both units, we built the bulkhead cavity in the small hallway between the master bedroom and living room. To fit the bulkhead split systems, we lowered and boxed out the ceiling. Additionally, we replaced the glass above the master doorway.
The outdoor unit was placed on the smaller side of the balcony that isn’t used very often. We ran the services in the ceiling of the master bedroom which required making some small holes. Then, when the renovations were finished, we patched and painted the ceiling.
Even without doing renovations, a bulkhead air conditioning installation is possible. However, it’s not always possible to do one without damage or rework. With proper planning, we can make sure any installation is done with minimal disruption.
