Case Study: Duplex Bulkhead Air Conditioning Installation
5 Head Multi Split System Bulkhead Installation
This is a bulkhead air conditioning installation in a residential duplex using a multi head split system setup that includes the following components:
- 15.5 kW Mitsubishi Electric five-port multi outdoor unit positioned on the ground down the side access;
- 7.1 kW Mitsubishi Electric bulkhead indoor unit for the downstairs kitchen living room;
- 5 kW Mitsubishi Electric bulkhead indoor unit for the Master bedroom; and
- Three x 3.5 kW Mitsubishi Electric bulkhead indoor unit for the three smaller bedrooms.
This is how the multi installation appears on the floor plan:
This multi-split system bulkhead air conditioning installation was completed on two duplexes with identical floor plans and air conditioning layouts.
A 5kW split system bulkhead air conditioner was installed in the Master Bedroom above the door, with a wall grill and a return air grill hidden in the robe. We lowered the ceiling inside the walk-in-robe to accommodate the air conditioner.
For the other bedrooms — two, three, and four — we installed a 3.5kW bulkhead air conditioning unit. Bedrooms two and four had bigger wall grilles, eliminating the need for a separate return air grill, but bedroom three’s small wall grill required us to place a return air grill on the side of the built-in wardrobe.
Lastly, we placed a 7.1kW bulkhead aircon unit above the Kitchen cabinets to service the Kitchen-Living room; this unit had a large wall grill that also removed the need for a return air grill.
Additionally, each bulkhead was fitted with a wall controller and a WiFi adaptor, which allowed users to control the air conditioning in each room of their house through their smartphone and ensure everyone’s comfort.
